  17. <p>     HE KNOWS WHAT SHERMAN SAID. Announcing his bid for
  18. re-election to the Senate, New Jersey's Bill Bradley said he
  19. "can't think of anything" that would keep him from serving a
  20. six-year term. Does this mean he absolutely, positively won't
  21. run for President in 1992? Dollar Bill has amassed $9 million
  22. for a Senate race that even a New York Knick could not lose.
  23. With such a handy war chest, his demurral sounds a shade less
  24. convincing than William Tecumseh Sherman's "I will not accept
  25. if nominated and will not serve if elected." Says a Bradley
  26. adviser: "If, God forbid, Dan Quayle should be President in
  27. 1992, Bill Bradley won't be locked in by a Shermanesque
  28. statement. He could have been. Bill knows what Sherman said."
